After trading a 4th round pick and RW Shane Harper to the Islanders for the rights to Mark Streit, the Flyers and Streit have come to an agreement. It's said that the contract is 4 years/$21 million, but the Flyers can not officially announce the signing since it will put them over the cap. With that being said, the Flyers will need to make room and it's almost certain that the next news will be of a current Flyer being amnestied. But who will it be? Last week, rumors were swirling around Flyers goalie, Ilya Bryzgalov and an "almost certain" amnesty. A league source reported that the Flyers will buyout Bryz to clear up cap and alsobecause he is "not liked by many teammates". Buying out Bryz would mean the Flyers are putting all their eggs in the Steve Mason basket. Is that the right move?
Is it Steve Mason? Or is it Ilya Bryzgalov, Homer? (photo via philly.com)[/caption] Another option for clearing up cap space is to amnesty the ever declining and only useful in the playoffs, Danny Briere. Briere is a $6.5 million cap hit next year and is in the final year of his contract. While Bryz is a cap hit of $5.6 million and has 5 years left on his contract .
The Streit signing sends a strong message both Briere and Bryzgalov will be bought out. — Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger)June 17, 2013
Your move, Homer.
